Judge tosses Belleayre lawsuit

A New York State Supreme Court judge has ruled to toss out a lawsuit by opponents of the long-planned Belleayre Resort project.

Catskill man charged with assault

On December 4th, 2016 the New York State Police at Catskill arrested Shawn O’Neil, age 38, of Catskill, NY for two counts of Reckless Endangerment 2nd, one count of Assault 3rd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, all Class A Misdemeanors.
House fire on Hobart's Main Street
A fire that broke out at a Main Street home in Hobart on Saturday afternoon was put out quickly thanks to local firefighters -- and a quick-thinking state trooper who grabbed a garden hose, the Daily Star reports.
When [Hobart fire chief Josh] Mason arrived at the scene, two troopers were already there, he said. They had seen smoke and thought someone was burning garbage.
“The whole back of the house was on fire,” Mason said. “One of the state police officers grabbed a garden hose on the ground, which happened to not be frozen, and used it to help put out the outer wall.”

New report: Almost half of households in NYS (and Catskills) struggle to pay the bills

Even above the poverty line, households across New York State aren't making enough money to get by.
That's the message of a recent report published by the United Way, which takes an in-depth look at household finances across the state and concludes that although just 15 percent of New Yorkers live below the federal poverty line, 44 percent are unable to afford their local cost of living and are facing serious financial insecurity.
Two men charged with threatening Delhi school
On December 2, 2016 the Delhi Police Department was made aware of posts made on social media, threatening violence against the local school. The school district was immediately notified of the threats and was placed in lockdown. Investigating officers quickly located the authors of the social media post and took them into custody. 18 year old Ben A. Lane of Delhi and 21 year old David S. Piskacek of Fleischmanns are charged with Making a Terroristic Threat, a Class D Felony and are currently awaiting arraignment at Delhi Town Court.
