The Palenville Hidden Art Gallery Walk will give visitors the opportunity to uncover art in uncommon places.
The gallery walk will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and features “pop-up” artwork in 10 different locations in the hamlet of Palenville, including a rustic barn, fire hall, library, former speakeasy and dancehall. A shuttle bus will be provided to help visitors get to each location.
Gallery walk organizer Jill Burkholder said the first hidden gallery walk was started last year, in an effort to showcase art in a way that was different from the numerous artist studios in the region.
Both local and traveling artists will have their work featured in the walk.
Burkholder said a new installment to the gallery walk this year will be outdoor fiber art, done by an artist from Virginia.
On Friday, June 20, there will be an opening reception at the Clark House B&B Barn for the tattoo exhibition, featuring work by Woodstock tattoo artist Ed Dempsey.
In addition to Dempsey’s work, Burkholder said the gallery walk organizers also put out a call for submissions — anyone with a tattoo was welcomed to send in a picture accompanied by a brief written piece telling the story of behind their ink.
These aggregated submissions will be displayed on a clothesline during the exhibition.
Burkholder said she plans on taking photos of tattooed visitors that come to the exhibition on Friday to hang them up as well.
On Sunday, beginning at 2:30 p.m., a “paint out party” will be held on Mountain Melody 3667, Route 23A Palenville, where artwork created by artists that weekend will be sold.
The Paleville Hidden Art Gallery Walk will take place in locations across Palenville, the in the Town of Catskill this Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22 between noon and 6 p.m. The opening reception for the tattoo exhibition will be held at the Clark House B&B Barn, 3292 Route 23A, Palenville, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission for the gallery walk and reception is free.
