22-year-old Davenport man arrested on statutory rape charges

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office reports that 22-year-old Davenport resident Christopher Palmatier was arrested on Thursday, May 17 on charges of third-degree rape and child endangerment.

Under New York State law, a charge of rape in the third degree applies when a person over the age of 21 has had sexual intercourse with someone under the age of 17.

A press release issued today by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office:

Following a joint investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Christopher Palmatier age 22 of 32 Cole Lane, Davenport, NY for three counts of Rape in the third degree, Class E felonies and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Class A misdemeanors. Mr Palmatier was arraigned in the Town of Kortright Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. Mr Palmatier is scheduled to reappear on May 21,2012 at 9:00 am in the Town of Kortright Court for a Felony hearing. It is alleged that Mr Palmatier had sexual contact with a person under the age of seventeen. The investigation into this case is on going.
