Deposit man arrested on murder charges in slaying

New York State police report that on Saturday, September 17, 20-year-old Deposit resident Michael J. Mills, Jr. was killed in a fight in a shed near a home on Airport Road.

38-year-old Andrew L. Hafele, also of Deposit, was arrested on Sunday, September 18, and charged with second-degree murder.

A press release from the state police:

(Deposit, NY – September 19, 2011) On September 18, 2011, the New York State Police in Deposit arrested Andrew L. Hafele, age 38, of 1450 Airport Road, Deposit, NY, for Murder in the Second Degree. Investigation revealed that on September 17, 2011, at approximately 8:00 pm, Andrew L. Hafele and the victim, Michael J. Mills Jr., were inside the shed next to the residence when they became involved in physical altercation. During the altercation Hafele armed himself with a hammer, striking Mills multiple times causing his death. Hafele was arraigned before Judge Michael T. O’Brien in the Town of Hancock Court and remanded to the Delaware County jail without bail. The investigation is continuing.
