Prattsville supervisor-elect resigns

It's only been three weeks since he was elected Prattsville's new supervisor as a write-in candidate, but Alan Huggins has already resigned, according to a story in today's Daily Mail.

Reporter Michael Ryan writes that the town board will now be charged with the task of appointing a temporary supervisor to serve until November 2012, when a special election will be held. And he throws in a tidbit of rather shocking gossip:

There had been widespread speculation, prior to the November 8 election, that Huggins would not serve, if elected, and that one of his write-in backers would be named to fill the slot.

Whoever is named to replace Huggins will have a tough job on his or her hands, even if only for a year. Prattsville was devastated by flooding from Tropical Storms Irene and Lee, and is still struggling to rebuild.
