Scott Murphy gets lemons, makes lemonade

Frequent Fox News commentator Dick Morris aimed a rhetorical blunderbuss between New York Congressman Scott Murphy's eyes yesterday over his vote for the healthcare reform bill, calling him and seven other legislators "traitors."

Those all voted no, and then when push came to shove and their vote was needed, they stopped lying to the American people and they switched to yes, which they were for all along. We're gonna follow those people, we're gonna follow where they get their campaign money, we're gonna follow what federal appointments and patronage they get, and we are going to defeat them in November.

Not to be outdone, Murphy is using Morris's attack as a fundraising opportunity. From an email the Congressman sent out today asking for campaign contributions:

By taking a stand against the status quo, I have already come under attack. Glenn Beck and Dick Morris of Fox News singled me out this week as the number 1 target of the national GOP, and declared it their mission to defeat me in November. The National Republican Campaign Committee has already launched dishonest attacks to try to intimidate me. And now that unlimited corporate spending in elections is allowed I will need to be able to combat these lies and make sure our positive message is heard.

Murphy's going to have a hell of a fight on his hands in November. NY-20, Murphy's district, has historically been fairly conservative, but went to Democrat Kristen Gillibrand in 2006. Murphy won his seat in a squeaker of a special election last March, when Gillibrand was appointed to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat.
