Spotlight on New Works at The Open Eye Theater

“Simplify,” a new play by Ron Nash, will appear in the “Spotlight on New Works” rehearsed reading series at The Open Eye Theater, on Wednesday, July 22, at 7 pm.  This two-character play about strong-willed women--a mother and daughter-- will be read by Patricia Van Tassel and Marcy Thorn.

In Nash’s challenging and thought-provoking new work, Flo, aging and ill, has chosen to live alone with her personal collection of dramatic characters in a world devoid of convenience and technology.  Her characters are in full conflict, when high-tech daughter Kai arrives for an unexpected visit--and to rescue her.  But, will Flo be rescued?  Should she be?

Ron received his MFA in playwriting from Carnegie Mellon University, and has taught theater in colleges for 20 years.  He has directed more than 100 plays, and currently splits his time between theaters in the San Francisco Bay area and the Catskills.

“Simplify” will be presented Wednesday, July 22 at The Open Eye Theater, 960 Main Street, Margaretville.  Doors will open at 6:45; the reading will start at 7:00 pm.  Admission is free; donations are appreciated.  Light refreshments will be provided.

A conversation with the playwright and the actors will follow the reading performance.  For more information, phone The Open Eye Theater at 845-586-1660 or e-mail: [email protected].
