“President Lincoln Delivers Gettysburg Address on 150th Anniversary”

President Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Peter Lindemann of Cobleskill, will deliver, on its 150th anniversary, the Gettysburg Address, and discuss the experiences which inspired it, at the Fairview Public Library, 43 Walnut Street, Margaretville, on Tuesday, November 19 at 7:00 p.m. President Lincoln had been invited to Gettysburg only 17 days beforehand. “One may wonder how Lincoln created the most famous speech in American history in such a short time,” said Lindemann. “The truth is, he had been preparing that speech his entire life.”

General Ulysses S. Grant and wife, portrayed by Walter Smythe and Anastasia Martin of Catskill, will join President Lincoln in Margaretville. “General Grant was not at Gettysburg,” said Lindemann, “He was busy beating the Rebels at Vicksburg. But it was none other than Lieutenant General Grant, supreme commander of the Union forces, who in 1864, the bloodiest year of the war, fulfilled Lincoln’s defiant vow that this nation, conceived in liberty, shall not perish from the earth.”
