Catskill Center Accepting Applications for Platte Clove Artist-in-Residence Program

The Catskill Center for Conservation and Development is accepting applications for the 2011 Platte Clove Artist-in-Residence Program. Painters, writers, sculptors, photographers, and composers from across the country have participated in this unique residency set in a remote location amidst the dramatic mountain scenery of the Platte Clove Preserve.

The Platte Clove Preserve is a 208-acre nature preserve in the Town of Hunter, Greene County, owned and maintained by the Catskill Center. Participants in the Artist-in-Residence Program stay at the Platte Clove Cabin: a rustic cabin surrounded by rugged terrain and spectacular waterfalls. The Long Path and other popular hiking trails traverse the Preserve and the 60-foot Plattekill Falls is a short walk from the cabin.

The facilities are modest with electricity and telephone, but no running water and an outhouse. The cabin is equipped with a drawing table and residents bring all supplies for their work. The program runs from July through September and residencies typically last one week.

Artists will be selected by a jury of representatives from partners in the Platte Clove Artist-In-Residence Program: the Catskill Mountain Foundation, the Roxbury Arts Group, the West Kortright Centre, and the Catskill Center.

Artists in all mediums are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Friday, April 1.
