West Shokan, NY – A free theatrical performance of The City That Drinks the Mountain Sky will be offered on September 7 at 11 a.m. at Davis Park in West Shokan as part of Olive Day. Olive Day is a town-wide community festival featuring music, food, crafts, community groups, and a traditional frog-jumping contest. With grants from the Dutchess County Arts Council and the Catskill Watershed Corporation the Olive Free Library is sponsoring a free performance that is geared toward all ages.

The play chronicles the creation of the Ashokan Reservoir, one of New York City’s principal sources of drinking water. The Town of Olive surrounds and straddles the reservoir. Some of the town’s hamlets were demolished and inundated in order to create this massive reservoir. The performance features colorful sets, live music, poetry, and puppetry

Arm-of-the-Sea was founded in 1982 by Marlena Marallo and Patrick Wadden as an experimental hybrid performance group combining art, ecology and social action. They continue to experiment with this ephemeral art form as a symbolic visual language that can illuminate the links between human communities and the life-support processes of the planet.
