Human remains found in Town of Ulster

Police have reported the discovery of skeletal human remains found Wednesday morning near Esopus creek in the Town of Ulster.

State Police Capt. Robert Nuzzo told the Daily Freeman the remains were found around 7 a.m. by a person cleaning the brush around a wooded area to the east of Sawkill Road.

Police have not yet identified the age, sex or how long the remains had been there, according to the Daily Freeman.

A state forensic unit was at the scene Wednesday, along with a K-9 unit and scuba team, combing the area for clues.

Police Lt. Mike Drake told the Daily Freeman investigators would try and identify the remains via a DNA test through dental records.

According to the Kingston Times, investigators, including Kingston and Town of Ulster Police and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department are looking through unsolved homicides and missing persons’ cases to find a possible link to the remains.
