Storm preparations: Schoharie County

A press release sent out by the Schoharie County Board of Supervisors, 1pm, Friday, October 26:

SCHOHARIE, NY – The Schoharie County Board of Supervisors encourages all residents to
keep themselves updated as to the upcoming weather events.  The County is taking a number of
steps to ensure that the residents will be safe and secure during whatever possible inclement
weather may occur.
 
The Gilboa Dam is being monitored to ensure the safety and security of all Schoharie County
residents.  Chairman Harold Vroman is in constant contact with the New York Power Authority,
DEP and the Governor’s office.  All of these agencies have been made aware of the concerns of
the citizens of Schoharie County. The Gilboa Dam will be a top priority throughout this weather
event and updates will be given on a regular basis.
 
Meetings including the Schoharie County Department Heads will be occurring throughout the
weekend to guarantee a comprehensive plan is in place. Chairman Harold Vroman has directed
the Emergency Management Office to coordinate will all Department Heads to make sure these
plans are running smoothly.  Strategic measures are taking place now to protect property and
equipment.  Shelters are being organized and staffs are being lined up should they be needed.  As
these details are finalized more information will be released.
 
An informational phone number is activated. Residents can 211 to receive the most recent
updates on weather conditions and emergency announcements. 2-1-1 is the number to dial for
information pertaining to shelters, evacuation routes, road closures, recovery services, power
outages, donations, volunteer opportunities, and other disaster-related services. Residents should
NOT be contacting 911 for this information.  That number should ONLY be used if an
emergency has occurred.
