Extreme Energy and the Fight for Our Future
Extreme Energy and the Fight for Our FutureMonday 4/23/12 at 6:00 PMSUNY New Paltz, Lecture Center 100 The world is running short of easy to access fossil fuels, but rather than take the diminishing supplies as a sign to change our paradigm to renewable energy, we have instead gone to increasingly extreme methods (such as hydrofracturing) to remove fuel from the earth. While these extreme methods temporarily give us the fossil fuels we crave, the extraction process comes with a huge price tag to our environment and to our health and does nothing to curb our carbon footprint or mitigate climate change. To inaugurate a new discourse, Catskill Mountainkeeper and our partners Frack Free Catskills, Clearwater, NYPIRG, and Working Families/Reel Power are sponsoring a conference on “Extreme Energy and the Fight for Our Future” on Monday 4/23/12 at 6:00 PM, at the State University of New York at New Paltz, Lecture Center 100. Please attend and hear from people who are working for a sustainable future, while fighting fracking and nuclear power in New York, mountaintop removal in West Virginia, and climate change around the globe. See a screening of "DIRTY BUSINESS: 'Clean Coal' and the Battle for Our Energy Future." Bring a friend and learn what you can do! Free and open to the public. For more information, please call Sue Rosenberg (Frack Free Catskills: 845-246-3449) or Beth Scullion (Catskill Mountainkeeper: 845-482-5400).
