Thunderstorms and tornado warnings

It was a wild weather night for much of the Catskills region. Here in Andes, wind and rain reached a fever pitch around 6am, making us wonder if a tornado was nearby. Turns out that a tornado warning had been issued for much of Delaware County from 5:45am to 6:30am. Police scanner activity reported downed wires in the town of Andes, but not evidence that a real twister had touched down.

A line of severe thunderstorms is still moving across the region right now. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Sullivan County earlier, and now towns in Ulster County are being warned that winds traveling at 60mph are barreling through.

So far, hydrograph data shows that there is minor flooding of the East Branch of the Delaware River at the top of the Pepacton Reservoir. No local streams are flooding, although the Ashokan and the Neversink reservoirs are getting pretty full.

The Daily Star reports that a previous line of storms coming through the region last night caused multiple downed trees and some fires in Chenango and Otsego counties.
