On Sunday 9/18: Raise the Roof Farm Flood Relief Fundraiser

September 18, 2011 - 4:30pm - 9:00pm

Farms across the Catskills were destroyed in the flooding cause by Hurricane Irene and the rains that followed. (Our correspondent, Ulla Kjarval, wrote a story about the fate of local farms for us last week.)

This Sunday, September 18, Lucky Dog Farm and the Hamden Inn, Sherman Hill Farmstead, and the Watershed Agricultural Council are hosting a farm relief fundraiser at the Hamden Inn, located at 35769, State Highway 10, Hamden, NY.  Stop by and lend a hand to a local farmer. We hear that the Stoddard Hollow String Band and the Tremperskill Boys will be in attendance.

Event details below:

Join us for an evening of art, music and entertainment, as well as a silent auction-- all to raise money for the recovery of Catskill area farms that were damaged by the severe recent flooding.

Coordinated by Sherman Hill Farmstead with the help and support of other local people and businesses. For more details on this event or to make a donation for the silent auction please contact Morgan George at 607-829-6886 or target409@hotmail.com or Holley White at haw@delhitel.net or 607-201-6498.

A fundraiser to benefit Catskill farms damaged by recent flood events will take place on Sunday, September 18th from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Hamden Inn, 35769 State Highway 10, Hamden.

Admission to the event is offered by donation, large or small.  Local musicians and writers will provide entertainment. Proceeds from the event's silent auction featuring local artwork and products will also benefit farmers.  Silent auction donations are still be accepted.  Please contact Morgan George of Sherman Hill Farmstead at target409@hotmail.com or (607) 829-6886 for more information.

Every dollar gathered at the fundraiser will be distributed to farm businesses in need.  A diverse review panel of local farmers will oversee the distribution of need-based funding awards.

The Watershed Agricultural Council is serving as the fiscal sponsor for the event. Those unable to attend the event, but looking to contribute to the farmer flood relief fund, may make a tax-deductible donate online at www.nycwatershed.org or mail checks made out to "WAC" to Attn: Farmer Flood Relief, 33195 State Highway 10, Walton, NY 13856.  Please designate donations to "farmer flood relief."
