New York State's lost Higway

Ah, New York State. It's a magical place, where the hills are alive with the sound of chizzles chizzling, skiers defy gravity, and the Higway runs through it all.

Watershed Post reader Nancy Fallon, who spotted the road sign above and took the photo, writes us:

This photo was taken on Old Route 28 through Fleischmanns.  I got home from taking photos of the flood and when looking closely at this sign I couldn't believe the misprint!  I think this sign has to date back to the 30's and no one has ever noticed that State Highway is spelled State "Higway."

The miracle is that they spelled "Fleischmanns" right -- a feat that, at times, is beyond the powers of our august local news outlets.

Disclaimer: If we had a quarter for every typo we've ever made in our official capacity at the WP, we'd have, well, a lot of quarters. Though we don't usually stamp ours on steel placards.
