Belleayre Mountain open as evacuation center; food and laundry available; Phoenicia water safe to drink

Town of Shandaken PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 31, 2011

Town Supervisor Robert A. Stanley reports that due to Hurricane Irene, Belleayre Mountain is still open as an evacuation center. Food and will remain available to all persons in need. Showers and limited laundry services are accessible. People are reminded that the roads in and around the Town of Shandaken have been seriously compromised and vehicular travel is discouraged.

The water quality in Phoenicia is safe to use and residents who need water can go to the Phoenicia Firehouse on Rte. 214, Shandaken Allaben Firehouse on Rte. 28 or the Pine Hill Firehouse on Main Street.

Donations are being accepted at the Shandaken Allaben Firehouse.

Bus transportation is being established with UCAT between Belleayre Mountain and Main St. Phoenicia.
