Want to see a skate park in Sidney?

If so, hie thee immediately to the American Legion parking lot on Union Street, where the National Guard has set up a temporary skate park and will be there til 4pm.

The National Guard? Skateboarding? Well, they've got an ulterior motive: They're hoping the siren song of the half-pipe will lure the youth of Sidney away from those drugs they do these days.

The Daily Star reports:

"We hope we'll have a good turnout," James R. Tweedie, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney, said Monday...

...There has been some discussion in the community about building a skate park, Tweedie said, and the event in part is to gauge interest in skateboarding and whether it is a passing fad, he said.

Kids under 18: You'll need a waiver from your parents, available at the Boys and Girls Club at the Sidney Civic Center.
