Costume Contest at Motown Dance Party, Saturday Night!

Just so happens that the Motown Dance Party set for this Saturday at the Orphic Gallery falls on the weekend on the eve of Halloween.   So all guests are encouraged to wear costumes and for further inspiration there will be prizes from the Eight Track Museum and Orphic Gallery for the most original, frightening and outrageous costumes.  So dust off your costume from last year or years past, or try out your costume for this year, but polish up those dancing shoes and make for the dance floor to celebrate the great music of Motor City!

From 7 to 10 pm we will be dancing to the fabulous Motown sounds made famous on the Tamla/Motown label sampling all of the greats from Hitsville – Smokey Robinson, the Temptations, Martha Reeves, Stevie Wonder, Mary Wells, Sam & Dave, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Four Tops, The Supremes, and The Jackson 5, all of the stars that created the songs that led to a total of 191 number one hits.  We are especially pleased to feature some of the early pioneers on the storied label Barrett Strong, Marv Johnson, The Contours, The Marvelettes and Mary Wells.

At 10 pm we will close the night with a raucous set of Detroit Rock & Roll beginning with 50s & 60s trendsetters Bill Haley & The Comets, Hank Ballard & The Midnighters, Del Shannon, The Reflections, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, and The Woolies.  The night will end with a rip-roaring sample of the amazing array of Detroit rockers from the 70s to the present including the MC5, Iggy and the Stooges, Grand Funk Railroad, Alice Cooper, Bob Seeger, Kid Rock, and the White Stripes.

Costumes are of course preferred but remember – it doesn’t matter what you wear, just as long as you are there!

The Orphic Gallery Motown Dance Party will occur October 25th from 7 to 11 pm at The Roxbury Corner Store located at 53525 State Highway 30 in Roxbury at the corner of Main and Bridge Streets.
