Central Catskill Luminaries – The Postal Mix Tapes

Hilt Kelly by Didier Cremieux

As part of his Postal Mix Tapes exhibit opening this evening at the Orphic Gallery Didier Cremieux will be unveiling the first of a series of postage stamps and posters honoring the musicians and musical traditions of our region.  On display at the gallery tonight will be a stamp celebrating the exceptional career of fiddler and square dance caller Hilt Kelly.  In addition, a poster of a stamp feting another local music maker extraordinaire will be revealed to those attending our opening and presented to this individual this very evening.

The Central Catskill Luminaries will be developed during the course of the Postal Mix Tapes exhibit and the first of what is anticipated to be a continuing series of sheets will be executed and displayed by the end of Didier’s exhibit at the gallery on November 30th.

Musicians of all genres from Appalachian folk to experimental jazz will be featured in the series.  We are seeking the participation of music lovers of the area to recommend musicians for the series and provide photographs of notable musical personalities.  Anyone with suggestions or images they wish to present to the gallery should contact us by e-mail at [email protected] or at the Orphic Gallery Facebook page.

Postal Mix Tapes opens tonight, Saturday, October 11th, with a gala reception from 5 to 8 pm at the Orphic Gallery at Main & Bridge Streets – where art and music collide.
