Petra Estiatorio to Cater Orphic Reception and Opening Restaurant This Weekend

Petra Estiatorio

The Greeks have a word for it – eleutheria – freedom - and diners in the Central Catskills will have more freedom of choice with the opening this July 4th weekend of a new Greek restaurant in Roxbury – Petra Estiatorio.  Located at the quaint clubhouse of the Shephard Hills Golf Course, this new Roxbury treasure is nestled in a bucolic valley one mile from the center of the village.

Petra Estiatorio is being founded by Paula Douralas and Kostas Tzanos, two pillars of the New York City Greek restaurant world.  Paula who will serve as chef at the restaurant, opened Santorini in Williamsburg in 2007 after working in leading Greek restaurants in Astoria. Her partner, Kostas Tzanos, will be the Dining Room Manager and most recently worked at the Trata, a Greek/Mediterranean bar lounge in the Hamptons.

Paula’s Catskill connections that led her to aspire to open this restaurant in Roxbury are Brian Tolle, a patron of Santorini who became a close friend of  hers and introduced her to the Catskills, and also Greg Henderson and Joe Massa, owners of the Roxbury Motel, who also frequented her Williamsburg establishment.  Together her Roxbury friends have assisted Paula and Kostas with the creation of their restaurant at the golf course.

The menu for Petra Estiatorio looks very inviting.  A generous variety of Greek appetizers and a full array of Greek salads is complemented by a cornucopia of entrees including traditional Greek lamb chops, chicken and pork souvlaki and naturally a sea full of Greek island fish delicacies.

They will be open seven days a week from 11 to 11, but on Friday & Saturday the kitchen will be open until 12.  For reservations please call (607) 326-6030.

The Orphic Gallery is very pleased to announce that food lovers can sample their fare at our opening tomorrow, Friday, July 4th at our art opening for Ken Butler’s Instrumental Desire:  Strings Attached exhibit from 5 to 7 On the menu for the opening are dolmadakias (stuffed grape leaves), keftedakia, Greek meatballs, spanakopita & teroopita, (spinach & cheese pastries), khorgiatiko loukaniko, (Greek sausage) takos, a tasy Cretan appetizer, and for you honey lovers, baklava.

Having sampled the cuisine at Petra Estiatorio at a recent Greater Roxbury Business Association mixer, and having been a connoisseur of Greek food for aeons, I must say that their exquisite food is some of the most authentic Greek food I have experienced outside of Hellas.  So come on out to Shephard Hills and partake of a sumptuous feast either in the elegant dining room or on the patio with amazing mountain and lake views.

Paula has said “I love people, I love cooking and I love Roxbury.”  Welcome to Roxbury, Paula and Kostas.
