WCCRC Seeks Candidates for Development Coordinator / Grant Writer Position

 Western Catskills Community Revitalization Council, Inc. (WCCRC) is a 501(c) 3 not for profit Rural Preservation Company working under the auspices of New York State Homes and Community Renewal.  Our mission is to cooperate with community members and local, state, and federal governmental and civic bodies in aiding, assisting and fostering the planning, development, renewal, and improvement of housing, mixed-use, commercial and civic buildings toward community revitalization and economic development.  Our service area covers the towns of Harpersfield, Kortright, Middletown, Roxbury and Stamford in Delaware County; Blenheim, Broome, Conesville, Fulton, Gilboa, Jefferson, and Summit in Schoharie County, and Ashland, Halcott, Hunter, Jewett, Lexington, and Prattsville in Greene County.

WCCRC seeks candidates for a full-time Development Coordinator / Grant Writer position located in Stamford, NY. 

The purpose of this position is to maintain and nurture relationships with existing funding sources for WCCRC; identify new funding sources for possible support based on priority funding areas; develop proposals and applications for these sources; and coordinate and advance the efficient and effective operation of a comprehensive development program to include areas such as special events, donor relations, and annual giving.

The Development Coordinator / Grant Writer reports directly to the Executive Director and  works very closely with funders such as HCR, Regional Economic Development Councils, DOS, HUD and other Program Staff to meet these goals.

This is an exempt, full-time position that will sometimes exceed 40 hours. Work hours will generally take place during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, although occasionally you may need to work in the evening or on the weekends.

Scope of the Position:

  • Sustain and renew existing sources for funding for programs from corporate, governmental and private sources. Specific tasks include crafting and writing letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and reports.
  • Based on priority funding areas set by the Executive Director / WCCRC board of directors, identify, research, and cultivate new sources of funding for programs. Specific tasks include developing briefing sheets on potential funders that identify strategies for approaching them, and writing letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, and reports.
  • Attendance at potential funder’s meetings or webinars, as needed.
  • Maintain a database that tracks prospects, submissions and reporting deadlines.
  • Participate in staff meetings for regular communications on status of proposal and report submissions, etc.
  • Assist in preparing updates on grants sought and approved to be included in the monthly Executive Director’s report.
  • Prepare other materials, such as case studies or publicity materials, as requested by funders.
  • Prepare an annual grant application schedule and prepare and submit progress reports.
  • Where appropriate, maintain primary relationship with funders.
  • Have experience in leading volunteers, as well as working with volunteer committees. 
  • Maintain database of supporters and oversee all correspondence with these supporters. Correspond with specific donors. Create individual donor reports, including a yearly comprehensive analysis of donor trends. Improve systems for tracking donations and donor information.
  • Develop short- and long-term fundraising strategy for the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in grant development, or similar experience, plus a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 1-2 years related experience in fundraising/development preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of rural issues.
  • Superior written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Experience with research to identify new opportunities for foundation and government relations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively and efficiently manage several detail‑oriented projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience, patience and comfort in dealing with a diverse range of people.
  • Computer and Internet literacy and familiarity with Word, Excel, and other Microsoft programs required.
  • Personal commitment to WCCRC’s mission and goals.
  • Residence in or willingness to relocate to the WCCRC service area and its surrounds. (No relocation package provided.)
