You are cordially invited to the Orphic Gallery in Roxbury on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 for the opening of a new exhibit MUSIC FOR FILMS –an exhibit of 8 track motion picture soundtracks celebrating the Catskill Mountains Film Festival. The exhibit will showcase 8 tracks from the museum’s original Dallas location as well as recent acquisitions of the Roxbury institution. The tracks on display will range from Easy Rider to 2001: A Space Odyssey, from Godsend to The Godfather, and the museum will play a choice selection of music from the soundtracks throughout the reception.
Festival director Jessica Vecchione remarked “A movie soundtrack is an essential element in filmmaking. The right music will bring a scene to life and make it memorable for a lifetime. So it is with so many of the songs from the heyday of the 8 track – the late 60s, 70s and early 80s – which are inextricably linked with the movie scenes in which they were featured. For all familiar with The Graduate, hearing Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence immediately evokes memories of Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross on the bus escaping the church at the movie’s stunning finale.”
The Catskill Mountains Film Festival promises to be a sterling weekend for local cineastes with the screening of over 100 films, workshops, and appearances by notable film professionals. The mission of the festival is to promote the film business in New York State, to showcase local talent and to develop a new generation of local filmmakers. The film festival takes place on May 2, 3 and 4, 2014, at Farrell Hall at the SUNY Delhi campus, the Open Eye Theatre in Margaretville and The Walton Theatre in Walton. The Orphic Gallery is located at the Roxbury Corner Store at 53525 State Highway 30, Roxbury, NY, at the corner of Main and Bridge Streets. The exhibit will continue through May 18th and be open to the public during the gallery’s normal business hours, Friday throughSunday, 12-5 pm.
