Last Chance for Potophonics – On to Spillian Tomorrow with Workshop, Banquet and Concert

The Stumpf Fiddlers Three at The Orphic Gallery/Sonic Totem Orchestra

Ed Potokar’s stunning Potophonics exhibit at the Orphic Gallery closes this weekend with the much-anticipated Re-Birth of the Stumpf Fiddle at Spillian – A Place to Revel - in Fleischmanns.  And revel we shall at the beautifully restored mansion once owned by Max Fleischmanns starting with a workshop at 1 pm followed by a sumptuous banquet and a concert of intriguing music by the Audio Artists.

But first the exhibit in its full splendor will remain on view at the Orphic Gallery in Roxbury until 12 noon on Saturday with extended hours this evening and will be open tomorrow morning from 9 am for the benefit of those who have not had the opportunity to see potophonics the likes of which will not be seen in these parts ever again.

Tomorrow at noon a select number of the truly one-of-a-kind instruments will be delicately transported to Spillian in Fleischmanns for use in the workshop and concert that will comprise The Birth of the Stumpf Fiddle.  During the day Ed will lead a workshop on instrument making, first making a presentation on the process of creating his marvelous works from conception through execution, then guiding us as we contrive our own stumpf fiddles from materials provided by Spillian or from the surrounding woods. In the evening, Ed and some of his friends from the NYC new music scene will lead the group in making beautiful stumpf fiddle/sonic totem music together in a brilliantly irreverent jam session.

In between the work shop and concert there will be a tantalizing banquet prepared by Nicole E. Day Gray in the Spillian dining room featuring:

• Crunchy Fried Green Tomatoes with Fresh Tomato Salsa (from Nicole's garden!)

• Tea Sandwiches with Minted Radish & our housemade Lemon Mayo (local, local, local)

• Locally Smoked Trout Pizzette topped with Radish Greens & our housemade Caramelized Wild Leek Pear Dressing

• Deviled Eggs topped with Fried Bologna Crisps (Local eggs)

• Peach Cobbler (local peaches).

And finally … we will be inventing a special Stumpf Fiddle cocktail in honor of this momentous occasion.

Come and birth your own stumpf fiddle! How have you lived without one?  Or you may simply come for the lavish dinner and high-tech hootenanny.
