Delaware County Historical Association to Offer Hand Quilting Workshop

On Saturday February 23, 2013 the Delaware County Historical Association will offer a one-day hand quilting workshop. From 11:00am to 4:00pm adults and children (over 12) alike are encouraged to come learn the basics of hand quilting – or perhaps to refresh their rusty skills. This class is geared to all quilters who want to learn how to hand quilt or improve their stitching technique leading to a more successful quilting experience. The workshop will be taught by Lesley Gray, an experienced quilter who was inducted into the Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame in 2007.

The class begins with an introduction to the products available on today’s market. Samples of needles, thread, thimbles, batting, marking tools and design possibilities are discussed. This is followed by a hands on practice session, using a kit provided that contains backing and top fabric, batting, thread and needle to complete a 14” pillow square that can be used for a pillow or table topper. Use of products previously discussed is encouraged so that the students can best decide which works best for them. Each student will choose a design, mark it on the fabric, and baste the layers together than proceed to practicing the correct stitch leading to successful quilting.

The cost of the entire workshop is only $40.00 per person and includes basic supplies. Please bring your own lunch. Space is limited to just eight participants Registration required by February 14th. Please call (607) 746-3849, or email: [email protected].

The Delaware County Historical Association is located 2.5 miles north of Delhi on State Highway 10.
