Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center Donates Over $83k for New Ultrasound Equipment

The Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center recently donated $83,449 to purchase a SonoSite Ultrasound device and a MUSE Electrocardiology Information System. The funds donated were raised through the Auxiliary's annual Harvest Moon Ball events of 2010 and 2011.

Roberta Scism, a radiology technologist at Margaretville Hospital, said the Sonosite device will mainly be used in the Emergency Department.

"It is a small, handheld ultrasound device that lets providers visualize the heart, abdomen, veins and the uterus to aid in making a rapid decision of future imaging or treatment for the patient," said Scism.

The MUSE Electrocardiology Information System by General Electric will capture ECG data and is designed to safely store and distribute patient data electronically.

Tullio Tarallo, RRT, Director of Respiratory Care at Margaretville Hospital, said healthcare providers will be able to view, interpret and compare ECGs across HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley's Margaretville, Benedictine and Kingston Hospital campuses.

"This system also allows the physician to view EKG's from their office or home to make more immediate decisions about the care of the patient," said Tarallo.
