This week's Good Food News 4/14

By laurie, Sun, 4/15/2012 - 12:41 am

Greetings and thank you for reading!  Here's some of the great stuff in fresh this week:

local fresh-baked goods   We're now getting in Flour Power staples (bread) and treats (tarts, danish, etc) every weekend, and this week brought us a fresh re-supply of giant vegan cookies from Down To Earth Whole Foods nearby in Endicott.

seafood & local poultry  This week's seafood: cod fillet.  If for some reason its ease of preparation and melt-in-your mouth butteriness don't convince you to buy a fillet, we also have our usual high-quality shrimp.  And you'll find wonderful local chickens in the freezer, with fresh due in next week; either way, they're great to have on hand.

produce Organic produce in fresh this week includes tri-color peppers, Valencia oranges, basil, beefsteak tomatoes, bunched red beets, chives, baby arugula, grapefruit, mangos, mesclun mix, Chef Mix Asian mushrooms, Yukon potatoes, cremini mushrooms, cucumbers, asparagus, carrots, cauliflower, baby spinach, and pineapples.  The new arrivals are in good company - gorgeous lacinato kale and rainbow chard, lots of citrus, ginger root, red and green cabbages, broccoli, tomatoes, and more.  Special thanks to our produce customers for helping us keep the variety both broad and fresh.  (Note: at the time of this post, sold out - asparagus; low - tri-color peppers, pineapple.)  We'll order again for Monday or Tuesday.

grocery  Great stuff just in on Friday, and of course discounted across the board: Hodgson Mill Organic Yellow Corn Meal, Knudsen Sparkling Cider, Lakewood Organic Coconut Milk, Mediterranean Organics Roasted Red Peppers, Mediterranean Snacks Veggie Medley Straws, Once Again Sunflower Nut Butter, Thai Kitchen Thin Rice Noodles, Volcano Organic Juices from Italy in Lime, Limeade, Lemon, Lemon Burst and Blood Orange, Rainbow Light Protein Energizer (great for smoothies!), Thai Kitchen Instant Soups in 3 flavors, Thai Ginger, Bangkok Curry, and Lemongrass Chili, Spectrum Naturals Chia Seeds,  Harmony Valley Vegetarian Hamburger Mix, Kelapo Coconut Baking Sticks, Kodiak Buttermilk Flapjack Mix, and Maple Hill Creamery Single Serve Yogurts: Cow's Milk in Wild Blueberry, Maple, Vanilla, and Plain, and Sheep's Milk in Maple, Vanilla, and Plain - just a fraction of what's come in over the last few weeks: the selection is wide enough that you really can do your grocery shopping here.  We work hard to keep prices low with the goal of providing the excellent value that will enable you to do so.

cheeses  Cheese & charcuterie delivery in on Friday included Danish Blue, Langa La Tur, a silky-textured soft-ripened 3-milk cheese in individual little cups, Grafton Vermont 2-year cheddar ("the best cheddar I've ever tasted," said one new customer this past week), Cranberry Le Roule', Cypress Grove Humboldt Fog soft-ripened chevre (the one with the line of ash through the middle), St Andre', Trois Petit Cochon Mousse Truffee, and two brand-new-to-us meats: Olli authentic Italian-style salame with no preservatives and Vermont Smoke & Cure bacon - no nitrates, nitrites, or antibiotics.

cofffffeeeee  In this week, a fresh batch of the world's yummiest coffee (says us) which also happens to be organic and fair trade and in these days of price volatility, one of the more reasonably-priced coffees to boot.  How great is that?

other interesting stuff  In this week, body lotion, facial moisturizer, and shampoo/conditioner in one from The Naked Bee, an independently- and family-owned company who makes bee-product-based skin & hair care.  It's wonderful stuff, and you can buy it here at prices competitive with Amazon's.

always arriving: fresh local eggs from pastured hens who are cooked for every day using people-grade feeds & organic produce - and a limited supply of duck eggs, too, for you bakers, or anyone who enjoys a large, very rich egg.

Of course, it takes more than good food to keep you healthy; we specialize in the best in vitamins, minerals, herbs, and homeopathy, at competitive prices.  In this week,a resupply of BioNutrition Raspberry Ketone Diet.

Please remind us: if you spend $20 and want a free package of Gurley's Almond Bark (for coating pretzels, nuts, and more), mention it, because to save our lives we won't remember to offer it, even though we mean to. Definitely not a healthy item, which is why we're giving away our ordering mistake.  (Consider yourself warned.) ;-)

I once saw a sign to this effect at a local business and thought it was spot on: "If we make you happy, tell everyone else.  If we don't, tell us!"   Thank you for that partnership.
