The West Kortright Centre announces its annual artists’ exhibit,  “From the Heart, 2011 Platte Clove Artists-in-Residents” to benefit the West Kortright Centre, in the Roberts’ Room Gallery. This annual fundraiser is a silent auction of paintings, works on paper, and photography featuring some of the artists that were awarded a one-week residency this year in the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development’s cabin at Platte Clove, in the heart of the Catskills. There will be an opening reception, sponsored by Brewery Ommagang, with refreshments on Friday, September 2, from 5 to 7PM. This exhibition will be open to the public during Tunes ‘n’ Tomatoes on Sunday, September 4 and will run until October 15.  Bidding will start at the opening reception on Friday, September 2, with final bidding occurring at the end of the Horse Flies concert, on October 15. At the opening there will also be a preview and early bidding on the 2011 Silent Auction of antiques, collectibles, and other assorted goods, in the auditorium.

Artists in the exhibit come from all over the country and right in our back yard and include Lisa Lebofsky (paintings), Judith Reeves (paintings) Rob Rocke (photography), Kristin Malin (watercolor) Richard Kathmann (paintings) Ekaterina Smirnova (watercolor) and Stacey Breheny (painting). The Platte Clove artists residency program is the only one in the country situated in the historic area where the Hudson River School of painting movement was initiated in 1825 by Thomas Cole, Asher Durand, Thomas Doughty,  Frederic Edwin Church, and others who searched the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain region for untainted wilderness.
