Donate to the Binnekill Business Council Toys for Tots toy drive

The Binnekill Business Council (formerly ShopMargaretville) is organizing a toy drive to help re-stock the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation warehouse in Brooklyn, which lost 1,000 toys to Sandy floodwaters. Brand new toys are being accepted at locations across the Catskills beginning on November 17. Locations include the Bed and Bath Shoppe and the Commons in Margaretville, The Tinder Box and Wadler Brothers hardware store in Fleischmanns, the Andes Hotel in Andes, Quarltere's Nursery in Roxbury and NBT Bank in Grand Gorge.

Dry ice locations in the Catskills today

Here's a list of dry ice locations in the Catskills today, compiled from Central Hudson's dry ice page, NYSEG's dry ice page, town websites, and our calls to several locations. Call if you can before you drive to make sure dry ice is there. We've provided phone numbers where we can find them. 

Ulster County:

Update: A new dry ice distribution point in Neversink has been added. 

Update: Dry ice will NOT be available at the Big Indian/Oliverea Fire Department as announced earlier, according to a statement from Shandaken police sent around 2pm.  Read more

Delaware County state of emergency lifted; travel advisory in effect; multiple road closings and power outages

In Delaware County, thousands of homes are without power (mainly in Sidney and Roxbury) and there is a travel advisory issued for the roads. The county has lifted the state of emergency, however, and is not operating any shelters, has cut emergency operations staff back to minimum levels, and is predicting that "major flooding is not a concern." No major reports of flooding have occurred in Delaware County at this time. 

Several roads are closed, including:

  • Ben Meeker Road, Searles Road and Swart Road in the Town of  Middletown are all closed due to trees and/or power lines down.  
  • New York State Route 30 from Cat Hollow Road to Holiday Brook Road. 
  • New York State Route 97 from Newman Road to the Sullivan County line.

State of emergency declared in Delaware County

From the Delaware County Emergency Services Facebook page:

Delaware County Chairman, James E. Eisel, Sr., has declared a State of Emergency for Delaware County. All roads in the county will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. when conditions will be reassessed.

Updated, 6pm: Delaware County has issued a press release. Although the county is in a state of emergency, there have been no announcements made about emergency shelters. The state of emergency will be reevaluated at 6am Teusday morning.

Town of Deposit declares state of emergency; Delaware County EOC open

This just in from Delaware County Emergency Services:

The Delaware County Emergency Operations Center opened at 1PM today in preparation for the potential impacts of Hurricane Sandy. The Emergency Operations telephone number is 607-746-9600.

On Tuesday October 30, 2012 the Delaware County Office of the Aging will not be providing the following services: Senior Dining Centers will be closed, no home delivered meals will be served and no bus services will be available.

The Towns of Deposit and Hancock and the Village of Hancock have each declared a State of Emergency. All roads in these municipalities are closed at this time.

Obama declares federal emergency in New York State; deploys FEMA

Tonight, President Obama granted New York State's request for a federal emergency declaration. The declaration will release federal resources in advance of Hurricane Sandy's arrival in the Catskills on Monday, and allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund and help coordinate the relief and response effort.
