The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Ulster, Sullivan and Greene counties, thanks to a set of thunderstorms that are expected to pass over the southern Catskills later today and tonight. (See the radar above for an idea of what's coming.) Here's the text of the latest NY-Alert:
From 8 AM EDT This Morning Through Thursday Afternoon
* Showers And Thunderstorms Will Develop Later This Morning Or This Afternoon Across The Watch Area With More Showers And Thunderstorms Expected Tonight And Thursday...Some Of Which Will Contain Very Heavy Rainfall. The Combination Of Abundant Low Level Moisture And Very Light Wind Fields Aloft Is Expected To Increase The Threat Of Heavy Rainfall...And There Is The Potential For Repeated Thunderstorms To Affect The Same Areas. While Most Areas Are Expected To Receive 1 To 2 Inches Of Rain From This Morning Through Thursday Afternoon...Areas Which Receive Repeated Thunderstorms May Receive 3 To 5 Inches Of Rain In A Relatively Short Period Of Time. This Heavy Rainfall Could Lead To Flash Flooding. * Anyone Living In Or Near Low Lying...Poor Drainage Areas...And Near Small Streams Or Creeks Should Remain Alert To The Potential For Flash Flooding...And Pay Close Attention To Any Flash Flood Warnings That Are Issued. Campers...Hikers And Anyone Planning Outdoor Recreational Activities Should Also Be Alert To The Potential Of Flash Flooding...As Well As The Threat Of Lightning.
