Move over, Farmville: Real live New York State farms on your iPhone

Just released last week: the latest version of a new, free iPhone application called Farmshed, which delivers info about local food, farms and wineries in Central New York to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. Green State Fair has the details:

The Farmshed App helps users make smarter, informed food choices while grocery shopping, eating out or traveling. It also helps farmers and wineries by making their farms and vineyards easier to find. The concept shows the potential the web and mobile technology has to connect consumers with artisanal and organic producers who are seeking to market their products directly.

If you'd like to check out Farmshed 1.1, you can download it for free from the iTunes Store.

The app was developed by Neil Brody Miller, who teaches at Onondaga Community College and blogs about local food at Stressing The Vine. While Farmshed is focused on Central New York, it does have a limited number of listings in Delaware and Schoharie Counties.

It would be nice to have a Catskills-focused version, wouldn't it? (Hint, hint. If you've got app-building skills, feel free to get in touch with us.)
