Celebrated Fresh Local Eggs?

The Cornucopia Institute’s report, Scrambled Eggs: Separating Factory Farm Egg Production from Authentic Organic Agriculture, rated Neversink Farm's eggs a 5-egg” rating: “Exemplary”—Beyond Organic.

Producers in this top tier manage diverse, small- to medium-scale family farms. They raise their hens in mobile housing on well-managed and ample pasture or in fixed housing with intensively managed rotated pasture. They sell eggs locally or regionally under their farm’s brand name, mostly through farmer’s markets, food cooperatives and/or independently owned natural and grocery stores and sometimes through larger chains like Whole Foods.

Main Street Farm is a local market that is proud to offer these eggs.  You can find us in Livingston Manor, NY.  We're located one mile off Rt. 17. Take Exit #96 and follow signs to Main Street.  Read more

This week's Good Food News 4/14

Greetings and thank you for reading!  Here's some of the great stuff in fresh this week:

local fresh-baked goods   We're now getting in Flour Power staples (bread) and treats (tarts, danish, etc) every weekend, and this week brought us a fresh re-supply of giant vegan cookies from Down To Earth Whole Foods nearby in Endicott.

seafood & local poultry  This week's seafood: cod fillet.  If for some reason its ease of preparation and melt-in-your mouth butteriness don't convince you to buy a fillet, we also have our usual high-quality shrimp.  And you'll find wonderful local chickens in the freezer, with fresh due in next week; either way, they're great to have on hand.

Organic farmers sue Monsanto

Reuters reports that the Public Patent Foundation, a nonprofit organization located at Cardozo School of Law and dedicated to preserving "freedom in the patent system," has filed suit against the agricultural giant Monstanto on behalf of a group of 60 farmers, seed businesses and organic boosters.

PUBPAT is preemtively suing Monsanto to prevent the company from suing farmers or seed suppliers for patent infringement if they unwittingly grow or use Monstanto's patented seeds. As Reuters points out, Monsanto is known for aggressively defending its patents on its seeds in the courts.

The lawsuit clearly intends to make a splash. In a press release, the PUBPAT executive director, Dan Ravicher, suggests that Monsanto is trying to take over the world's entire food supply:  Read more
