This week's market is the Monticello Farmers' Market. The market is held every Monday from June 27 through October 10, 11am to 2pm, outside the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center at 10 Jefferson St., Monticello.
The Monticello Farmers Market, formally Eat Healthy FMNP Farmers' Market, is a collaboration between Catskill Mountainkeeper, Sullivan County Public Health Services (WIC Program), Sullivan County Rural Health Network, and Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County.
Catskill Mountainkeeper's Farmers' Markets in Liberty and Monticello aim to promote local, sustainable agriculture, increased consumer awareness and access to healthy foods, while enhancing the value of our communities and economic opportunities for farmers, small businesses and artisans.
The Liberty and Monticello Farmers Markets are approved for the ‘Farmers Market Nutrition Program’ (FMNP), the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Vegetables and Fruit Program and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formally EBT) benefits. These initiatives provide eligible recipients with vouchers that can be used for the purchase of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from approved farmers' markets around New York. The purpose of these programs is both to increase the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables among low income, disadvantaged residents, including seniors and women, infants and children, as well as to increase awareness within the recipient community about the availability and benefits of fresh, local food.
