Clearwater Festival, June 15 & 16!

Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival takes place this weekend on the banks of the Hudson River in the gorgeous Croton Point Park.

This picture, from the Clearwater Closing Ceremony in 2007, is of Rick Nestler (who wrote the classic tune "The River That Flows Both Ways", Bovina native Ira McIntosh, Story Laurie & Pete Seeger....all of whom will be performing yet again at the festival which features SO many amazing acts, you won't want to miss it!

NB:  Traffic near the festival entrance gets VERY heavy.  If you plan on going, make a full day of it, and leave bright and early. Much better to spend a couple of extra hours lounging & listening than sitting stewing in your car while the act you really wanted to see is performing. Seriously. Plan on arriving before the gates officially open. You won't be disappointed.

Story Laurie is performing at 11:00 am Saturday morning on the Family Stage.  She'll be joined by her husband Ira McIntosh, their kids Ava & Charley and other special guests!  Come say hello. (Take pix! Post pix, or send 'em to us to post!)

"Neighbor to Neighbor" Featuring Pete Seeger with Dar Williams, Tom Chapin, Guy Davis, Dan Zanes & MORE!

Neighbor to Neighbor: Family Music for Sandy Relief is a spectacular compilation of music, the sales of which will benefit downstate victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Recalling how downstaters came to our aid after Hurricane Irene devastated our region last year, local storyteller & musician Story Laurie McIntosh asked fellow Catskills/Hudson-based musicians to help return the favor by donating their talent to this digital-download compilation.

You can buy Neighbor to Neighbor now at  http://neighbortoneighbor.bandcamp.com/ -- either as an instant download, or in the form of  a download gift card that can be sent directly to your loved ones (in time for Valentine's Day if ordered by Noon, Monday 2/11). Neighbor to Neighbor is the perfect way to send  a meaningful gift to a loved one, and spread the love to people in need at the same time.  Read more

If Shop You Must: Shop Local!

My five year old son Charley asked my husband the other day, "Dad, how can we shut down sweat shops in China?"

Here's one good answer that I'd like to share: If shop you must, shop local.

A local farm stand is a particularly good place to start!

And here are links to a few good places where you can also shop locally:

Tribute to Grandma Avis & Her Stories, Sat. 10/27, 10:30 am, Woodstock Library

For many years, Grandma Avis enchanted & delighted Woodstock area children with her magical storytelling.

We are missing her now that she is gone, and will honor her memory with this storytelling celebration and the unveiling of a special gift dedicated to Avis...a gift that will lend magic to all storytellers and story hours at the Woodstock Library, happily ever after.

It was thanks to Grandma Avis, who took a young aspiring storyteller under her wing nearly twenty years ago, that the persona of Story Laurie was born.  Join Story Laurie and fellow storytellers Jill Olesker, Cass Reep, Jean Druffner, Clara Mead, Sophie Sujo and more for this very special program.

Story Laurie at Busk & Bard with Tuba/Bass Player David Winograd

No, Story Laurie won't be breathing fire or swallowing swords...

but she will be serving up a wild mix of songs and stories throughout the day Saturday as part of Busk and Bard.

For the first half of the day, Laurie will be joined by tuba and upright bass player David Winograd of the band "Saints of Swing"

Will David play both tuba and bass simultaneously?  That might be a bit of a stretch...but he could well play them both within the same song!

Come down for the merriment and festivities this Saturday, in Roxbury NY 12474

Many acts to enjoy at...
