We weed, we restore forgotten gardens and maintain existing gardens. Our focus is to improve gardens of all types and sizes of gardens. We assess your garden and, based on your site's conditions, will assist with your plant selections. We will maintain your garden and control weeds. We believe in the cultivation of the soil, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and organic practices.

We clean up after the bulldozers, backhoes, housepainters have left your garden with raw exposed earth, broken shrubs and crushed perennials, and give it the finished look. We use hand tools to work in existing gardens where there is no room for a machine.

With over 20 years of experience, we are the only service in the Catskills who will work with you to marry your desires with what is truly practical. We take the long term view, not just how will it look after we’re done, but also how it will look in 5, 10 and more years from now.

Melissa Bennett, From Root To Shoot’s founder and owner, has three decades of professional gardening and natural history experience, including a Ph.D. in Entomology. She is a local specialist, but she has a global perspective, having worked in a variety of natural environments (desert, tropical) as a gardener and as a scientist.
