Tannersville skateboarder dies after being struck by police car

A 50-year-old man was killed late Thursday night when he skateboarded into the path of a state police cruiser on Route 23A in the village of Tannersville.

According to a New York State Police statement issued Friday, 50-year-old Bernard Hamilton of Tannersville was riding his skateboard down Hill Road and into the intersection with 23A at 11:38pm. Hamilton collided with a trooper's car, which was driving westbound on 23A. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police did not release the name of the driver. An investigation is ongoing, and state police ask anyone with information to contact them at 518-622-8600. 

Responding to the scene along with state police were responders from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Tannersville Rescue Squad, Tannersville Fire Department and Hunter Ambulance.
