Parole fugitive arrested for Ulster County copper burglary

New York State Police arrested 29-year-old Joseph A. Cioto, a Highland resident, on Friday following a month long investigation into copper-related burglaries in the area. Cioto faces charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief.

State police from Highland and Ellenville, the New York State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad and Troop Major Crimes, United States Marshals in the N.Y. /N.J. Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office aided in the arrest of Cioto, a state police press release said.

Cioto, who is also a wanted fugitive from New York State Parole, was arraigned in the Town of Lloyd court and was sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail. He is pending a further court appearance.
