Ulster County deputy sheriff arrested on charges of narcotic possession

This just in from the Ulster County Sheriff's Department:

Ulster County Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum reports the arrest of Sean W. Ryan, age 41, of West Hurley, N.Y. for the charges of Official Misconduct and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. Both crimes are Class A misdemeanors.

Mr. Ryan is a uniformed Deputy Sheriff with the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest comes after a month-long investigation conducted by Sheriff’s Administrative personnel and members of U.R.G.E.N.T. (Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team) into illegal possession of a narcotic substance. Ryan was found to be in possession of 8 Oxycodone tablets in a marked uniformed vehicle. The said substance was purchased illegally by Ryan without a prescription, from an illegal source.

Ryan was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Esopus Court on May 24, 2011, 6:00 pm. Ryan was also suspended without pay from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office for 30 days awaiting further disciplinary actions and proceedings.

The investigation is continuing. The investigation was conducted with assistance from the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office and U.R.G.E.N.T.
