Stabbing death in Walton; Florida man arrested

20-year-old Lejuan Wainwright has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, in the stabbing death of Walton resident Tyler Warner on Saturday.

Walton village police announced the arrest yesterday:

Acting Village of Walton Police Chief John Demeo announces the arrest of 20 year old Lejuan R. Wainwright, formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida, on a charge of Murder in the 2nd degree in the stabbing death of a 20 year old Walton man. Wainwright was taken into custody shortly after the incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at approximately 10:00 p.m. following a verbal argument outside a Mead Street residence.

Wainwright was arraigned before Village of Walton Justice Richard L. Gumo and remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. Attorney Aaron A. Dean represents the defendant, who is schedule to reappear in village court on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Walton Village Police are being assisted in the investigation by members of the New York State Police and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.

The release does not identify the victim, but the Daily Star was on the scene doing some gumshoe reporting yesterday, and identified the deceased as Tyler Warner. From the Daily Star:

On Sunday, spots of blood stained a porch in front of the multi-unit, paint-peeled apartment building where the stabbing allegedly happened. Inside 48C, Warner's friends mourned.

Tia Franchi, 19, said Warner was a frequent guest at 48C, where she lives with her boyfriend, Frank Mastrorocco, and his brother, sister and mother.

"I saw him every day," Franchi said. "He was very generous, giving."

Update, 4pm: An earlier version of this post mistakenly identified the victim as Tyler Warren; his name is Tyler Warner.
