Accord man accused of trying to burn 9-year-old with cigarette

Accord resident Kevin Chronister, 46, has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly trying to burn a 9-year-old with a lit cigarette. A press release from the Ulster County Sheriff's Department:

Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff's Office report the arrest of Kevin R. Chronister, 46, of 406 Stony Kill Rd for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor.

Deputies responded to a report of a check the welfare at 406 Stony Kill Rd. Through investigation Deputies learned Chronister, who was highly intoxicated at the time of the call, was involved in a verbal argument with a 9 year old over his high level of intoxication. Chronister then grabbed the 9 year old's arm and attempted to burn her arm with a lit cigarette. The 9 year old was able to pull away and Chronister then left the area. Chronister was located at the scene and taken in custody without incident. Chronister was processed and arraigned in front of Judge Sheehan at the Town of Rochester Court. Judge Sheehan postponed the arraignment due to Chronister's intoxication level and released him on his own recognizance. Chronister is due to return to Court on December 7th, 2010, at 6:00pm. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police at Ellenville.
